Examining CHAOS;HEAD’s internal files…
After a bit of research and inquiries for assistance, I was able to use Crass to extract the npa files within my installation folder. I presume the npa stands for Nitroplus archive. Anyway, once the nss.npa file is extracted (supposedly the Nitroplus script system), you can edit the contents of the file and it’ll show up properly in the game once you remove the original nss.npa file and replace it with the extracted nss folder. The compression process supposedly isn’t working, which is why you have to copy the folder instead of creating a new nss.npa file.
“English punctuation” like the comma and period does not show up properly, I think this might be an issue with the font although that’s hard to believe since you can use Japanese fonts to write English sentences. This would be why I have no commas above.
The extraction process is quite simple, see below:
crage -d “chaos;head” -O game=ChaosHead
Whatever you pass to -d should be wherever your npa files are located. Entering the full path to the installation folder will extract everything (CGs, voices, etc.) and will take a fair amount of space. I do not have that much space so I have only tried extracting the scripts.
Update:
Funny, right after I posted this I remembered one English phrase that was used in the game. After inspecting the contents of that script file, I noticed that the period was prefixed with an ampersand. Inserting an appropriate &, into the line has produced the image below.

Thanks for posting!
I tried to use Crass, but I couldn’t extract npa files.
I followed the step that is shown above,
but it only extracts the ngs files, videos in the dx folder.
What should I do?

Hi, you should try checking with the TLWiki folks. They may know what’s wrong. I suspect there may be slight oddities with your installation or something.
