Today’s assignment was…”free style”. So yeah, it’s pretty much what it sounds like, here’s some stuff, do whatever the hell you want, and so I did.

This is almost what the final work looks like. The final version (which I forgot to snap) included some extra greens on the bottom right hand corner and three of the four leaves were trimmed off the main stem but the overall composition is what you see above. The basic idea I was going for here with the cordylines was to have them go “wrap, wrap, straight”. So you can see the first one at the bottom is a complete fold, the second folds over like a bridge, then the third one at the top is completely open.
I was given cordylines in my first free style assignment but didn’t actually end up using them but I’ve seen a lot of the other students put them to good use so I tried my hand at it this round. I’m really pleased with how this arrangement turned out if I may say so myself.
The next piece I’m going to be working on will be one with fruits and/or vegetables. It’ll be the first time I’m going to be working with them (as I’ve just been working with branches and flowers exclusively thus far)…and it’s pretty much driving me mad over here.
I’ve been thinking of the composition on and off since class ended today but I haven’t quite got a handle of what I want to do just yet. I’m “pretty” sure I want to incorporate spinach in the arrangement and am currently thinking of maybe adding some asparagus and/or lettuce but I’m really stuck on what to go for in terms of colour. You know, something to draw the viewer’s eye, like say, peppers, bananas, or maybe tomatoes? I don’t know. I guess I could just use greens…maybe?
Anyway, I imagine I’ll be loitering around at Loblaws longer than usual tomorrow. :|
