Exam schedule for 2007 winter term…

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Well, everyone knows that the schedule has been out for a while, so nothing new there. For myself, however, I had merely glanced at it a few weeks ago just to confirm that I had no conflicts and then I placed it as an aside immediately. Hence, I reviewed it just a little while ago to see how things will play out during those upcoming weeks in April. I know no one cares, but here it is.

April 11 - 1230-1500 - MATH 125
April 12 - 0900-1130 - ANTH 102
April 12 - 1930-2200 - ACTSCI 221
April 18 - 1930-2130 - ECON 102

I don’t remember it being this bad when I glanced at it. I was of the impression that I had two on two days, twice, with a gap in between (if that made any sense), but I guess not. If you’re asking where STV 205 is, we’re going to be taking the final in class next week on Wednesday.

BlackApple?

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

I am in STV 205 right now, literally. And our professor just referred to the famous BlackBerry as a BlackApple. Wow…just wow.

Woah, that went by fast…

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

So there are only two weeks of school left, eh? It didn’t really occur to me until I bothered to actually think about what today’s date was beyond the fact that it’s just a mere number. This of course means that I’m running out of ECON 102 lectures with Larry Smith, which of course, is a real drag.

Seriously, everybody should take this course. I don’t care if I’m going to fail this course or not (which would as result kick me out of UW), because I’m damn glad I’ve had the privilege of being taught by him. It’s that good. Sign up next term for it if you’ve got a slot to spare, you won’t regret it.

For the record, I got 28/36 on the second midterm (since there was no math involved), so if I can get that kind of grade, all you geniuses that reads my blog should have no problems whatsoever.

Oh, time for my midterm…

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

I’m typing this in the dining area outside the MC’s C&D at the moment. I’ve got a midterm in ten minutes which I totally did not study for. While I was granted a pardon by placing the weight of the grade on the midterm (since I may not have been able to make it back, which was quite possible since I just got off the car like ten minutes ago outside DC), I think I’m still going to take it. It’s unfair to the other students if I’m here and capable of taking the midterm but then I don’t.

Fascinating, snow and freezing rain hits the fan…

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Like yesterday afternoon, the University of Waterloo has closed its doors due to its winter storms. There goes three of my lectures. While this is nice and all, it is not exactly going according to plan since I had originally wanted to speak to my professors today to check what I’d miss from Monday’s lecture because I would be absent…my, my.

A true exodus…

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Wow….so all classes today after 1530 got cancelled. So…MATH 125 tutorial quiz, off, ECON 102 second midterm, off. As I walked out of DC and looked at that Ring Road intersection and saw all the people walking away from the university, I could only think of the word “exodus”. While there was no leader in sight leading the students away from the University like Moses did as he lead the Jews out of Egypt, no other word appropriate enough for that sight popped up into my mind.

If you’re in UW, don’t forget to vote…

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

I voted back in 2005 and didn’t back in 2006 (primarily because “I forgot” because of the work term thingamajig). Voting for the senate and the president/vp stuff will be going on at vote.feds.ca from February 13-15, so don’t forget to cast your vote. And no, I don’t care if you’re not in the Waterloo area right now, you know who you are, Jacky Yip.

Morgan is running for senate for the math faculty, by the way. Which, as you all know, Morgan is like…”kind of” a big deal? All of us in software (now and before *cough*) has been indebted to that man in some way, shape, or form. We all know Morgan is not the type of person that would endorse the action of voting without being informed (even if he was on the line, per se), hence I succinctly note here that we should all read each math candidate’s platforms first before voting, capiche?

Greatest speaker or greatest speaker?

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

I had the privilege of attending a talk by Larry Smith about software entrepreneurial start-ups in the MC and a lecture with him in ECON 102, it doesn’t get any better than this, two talks in one day.

The midterm grades were also posted today and it seems that I’ve managed to pull an 18/28. You know how you go over your scantron to count how many questions you got for sure before you hand it in? Yeah, I counted only eight when I was taking the midterm. So yeah, not bad, not bad at all. :P

Hello writing assignment…

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

After having graduated from Chaminade back in 2004, I really haven’t done any formal writing assignments since. Sure, I do participate in NaNoWriMo, but that hardly counts since it’s just a matter of stringing awful words together like a creative writing assignment, but worse.

Anyway, having bashed STV 205 a few days ago, it seems my remarks have returned to haunt me in the form of a 1,200 word paper (+/-10%…wait…what? Ten percent? Give or take ten percent, you say? Shouldn’t it be more like give or take a hundred words (or a hundred and twenty, if you so incline)? Who the hell writes give or take ten percent when talking about word count, seriously?) and a midterm.

So let’s take a look at the marking scheme for this paper, shall we?
4 Description of article.
4 Problem identification and description of solutions.
4 Your opinions–did author convince you or do you disagree? (Yes, I know it’s grammatically incorrect, I am merely copying this word for word from the handout.)
3 Format, length, neatness

So, I can pass with a 11/15 just by talking about the article alone. Ain’t that just grand? The whole “opinion” bit is also ludicrous since it just proves again how no one can possibly take this course seriously. Sources, anyone?

STV 205 sucks…

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

It’s amazing just how boring assigned readings can be. Everyone I’ve ever asked has claimed that this course was easy and that was that, it sure would’ve been nice if they had forewarned me about these long and boring readings.
